Biography Jetse Sprey

Jetse Sprey is a seasoned lawyer deeply rooted in the film industry. He started off as a location manager and producer in the nineties and left the set a few years later to start his own law practice. After a few years of being a partner in one of the larger law firms, he joined forces with Roland Wigman and Jaap Versteeg to establish Versteeg Wigman Sprey in 2002. A firm aiming at the so called "creative industry" that (employing eight lawyers) was soon to be the leading law firm in the Dutch film industry. All major films, producers and talent pass through their Amsterdam offices.

Summary
Jetse Sprey will be discussing copyright issues in the 21st century, where we are moving away from a world where some produce and many consume and where creativity operates differently. He will discuss the difficult balance between the rights of filmmakers and the principle of faire use. Current ambiguities in copyright laws are having a chilling effect upon our efforts to develop and circulate materials for media literacy education.
