Q. When is the next International Film Festival Rotterdam?
A. The 37th edition of the IFFR takes place from 23 January through 3 February 2008. During the Festival, CineMart takes place 27 - 31 January.
Q. Are there any employment opportunities at the International Film Festival Rotterdam?
A. There are currently no vacancies. To make an open solicitation, please send a cover letter and CV to jobs@filmfestivalrotterdam.com.
Q. When will the Programme be announced?
A. The full Programme of the 37th edition of the International Film Festival Rotterdam will be announced on Thursday 18 January 2008. It will be available on this website and in print form as a supplement to the Dutch newspaper De Volkskrant.
Q. What are the themes of the Festival?
A. The International Film Festival Rotterdam has no overall theme. However, there are several programme sections that recur every year, such as the Tiger Competitions for long and short films, "Sturm und Drang" (innovative cinema), "Time & Tide" (current and committed films), "Maestros: Kings & Aces" (new films from established filmmakers), "Short: As Long As It Takes," and "Exploding Cinema" (exhibitions where film meets new media). Each edition also contains a number of thematic sidebars.
Q. Are the Festival venues wheelchair accessible?
A. The accessibility of the venues varies from location to location. Please see this list of accessibility per location.
Q. What sort of weather should I expect during the Festival?
A. During the Festival period, Rotterdam temperatures typically hover just above the freezing point 1-5°C (34-42°F). Ice or snow is possible, so remember to bring appropriate footwear and warm clothing.
Q. What is the best way to get around Rotterdam?
A. Rotterdam is a compact city well served by an efficient and inexpensive transportation system. Additionally, all the main festival venues are within easy walking distance of each other in the city center. We therefore recommend that you DO NOT rent a car as walking, public transport or taxis are appropriate options.
Q. What can I do if the screenings I want to attend are fully booked?
A. There is usually enough space at the Press & Industry Screenings to accommodate our professional guests (and you don’t need to get a ticket). Although the public screenings are also open to professionals (with a ticket from the Guest Desk), these tend to be fully booked, so we strongly advise you to check the Press & Industry Screenings first. Another option is the Video Library, where most Festival titles are available for viewing.
Q. Where can I check my email?
A. IFFR badge holders are welcome to the Business Center on the fourth floor of De Doelen to use online computers and, at your own expense, fax and photo copying facilities. You can also check your email in the Willem Burger Foyer of De Doelen.
Q. Is there anything special I should bring to Rotterdam?
A. Besides the normal paraphernalia that you would bring to any film festival or market, we also recommend that you take care to pack warm clothing and footwear and an umbrella in case of inclement weather.
Q. Where should I stay in Rotterdam during the Festival?
A. Please refer to Hotels & Flights for more information.
Q. What else is there to do in Rotterdam besides the Festival?
A. Rotterdam is a modern cosmopolitan city with a stunning array of cultural and leisure opportunities. Please refer to the City Guide for more information.
Q. I don’t speak Dutch! Will that be a problem in the Netherlands?
A. Generally speaking, the Dutch possess a high English proficiency and can often also converse in other languages such as French and German. Most signage in the larger cities such as Rotterdam, Amsterdam and The Hague appears in both Dutch and English.
